New Teacher Diary

When Pablo set the desk on fire for the fourth time I was nearing the end of my patience. My supervisor had warned me that he was tired of calling the fire department to school, and the principal claimed that such incidents were "black eyes" for him. He instructed me to focus more on "feathers in his cap."
Still, while I wanted to chastize Pablo, I noticed that Mary and Soo Jin were climbing out the window. I couldn't tell whether they were trying to escape the flames or simply cut class again. Being on the third floor, though, I felt I needed to do something. I decided to call the dean. Imagine my surprise when I opened the phone box to find the handset had been stolen for the third time this week.
I debated whether I should use my cell phone, but while reaching for it I discovered someone had once again filched it from my pocket. Probably one of my damn students. Thank goodness I'd finally bought insurance for it. While I was contemplating this, I couldn't help but notice that Jim and Frank were once again beating Sandy to a pulp. Sandy's parents had been in to complain of this on multiple occasions, and were very unreasonable when I explained that Jim and Frank had issues with impulse control and were working them out.
I can't wait for the summer. It's not because I want to relax and have fun, but because I want to recharge my batteries, and regain my enthusiasm. I just want to continue helping these kids.

Your words have inspired me. I'd been jaded, and recumbent, not to mention tumultuous.
But now I am virulently inspired to teach like I've never taught before. And there are those who say that I've never taught before.
I shall approach my job with a newfound enthusiasm, and retire at the earliest possible opportunity. Now that I've touched the hem of Le Gran Fromage's garment, my life is complete.
If only I can weasel my way into a Unity job, I will have realized all my dreams. May this be the first day of the rest of your career, Spinmile.
Along with Le Gran Fromge, you are a model for us all.
The Importance of Our Young Teachers
by Millis C. Furry
We must always be supremely aware of the importance and inspiration our young teacher provide our yoong, as well as our old, children.
I, Millis C. Furry, was once a young teacher, before I became an older teacher, and I too worked to inspire our young, as well as our old, children.
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like the classroom. Let us unify ourselves by supporting Unity, wherever and whatever else may come to pass.

The contract is a piece of crap! Why should we accept this crap contract? It's crap, I tell you! Crap, crap, crap!
Like you, I am a new teacher. I was assaulted twice, had problems getting the parents to support me, and it took me 8 months to finally learn the Columbia method. I too have asked my AP for assistance in planning.
I too hope summer passes quickly so I can get back to what I love--teaching. I am so grateful to Cleo and LGF for extending the school year to 190 teaching days. I can't wait for another year of the abuse and non-support that has made my first year so satisfying.
I too am a new teacher who is looking forward to the next school year. I would like to thank Unity for cutting the summer vaction short so that I can realize my dream of returning to work sooner.
God Bless you Unity!
I hope Cleo once again deletes NYC Teacher!! I have had it with his attacks on this wonderful contract that gives us less money than the burbs and more working time and more givebacks.I am proud of my time doing lunch duty.
I like waking up before dawn and getting home at sunset. I love feeling exhausted! But most of all I love being treated like a puppet by the DOE.
Why don't you just shut up, NYC teacher? Isn't that what your blog is for? Why don't you go vover there and shut up?
Why the hell can't NYC teacher shut up and support the new teacher?
Let's not have anti-Unity sentiment in the New Teacher section. Or anywhere else.
We will do whatever we have to, including editing, banning, and ignoring any heresy that may appear on this blog.
Remember--it's not enough to simply pay dues. You must love Le Gran Fromage from you heartmost felt bottom.
Brownnose is really too much. What can we do about that weirdo?
Ya want I should firebomb your car, wiseguy?
That's what I thought.
Punks.
If new teacher's principal would just stop screwing around and sign up for the empowerment zone, Sandy would stop getting beaten up.
Dear Spinmile,
Like I, I know you can't wait for LGF to negotiate an extended school year in the next contract.
There is nothing like working in a non air-conditioned classroom in the dog days of summer. I look forward to all the sweat beading down my face and body while LGF and Joel sit in their modern air-conditoned offices.
How lucky are we?
Brownnose is the best Any way we can get him to write more?
Give him that UFT job he's been hankering for.
I also enjoy brownnose.
Brownnose is loveable.
I too love Brownnose. He is so cute, just like his picture.
I love him too. But he writes like shit.
It's true he writes like shit. But the good thing is, you never know what the fuck he's talking about.
Where have you been? I need marching orders.
We'll be back shortly, duespayers.
Meanwhile, remember. Unity goes down smooth.
